On 11 February 2026 at 9:00 a.m., the Faculty of Economics, Chiang Mai University, led by Associate Professor Dr. Rossarin Osathanunkul, Dean of the Faculty, together with associate deans and staff members, attended the award presentation ceremony to receive the First Prize Award and cash prize in the Landscape Decoration Competition held in conjunction with the 60th Royal Graduation Ceremony of Chiang Mai University. The competition, organized on 10 January 2026, aimed to enhance the university’s atmosphere, visual appeal, and memorable experience for graduates, families, and visitors during this significant occasion. The award ceremony took place at Tawan Conference Room, 4th Floor, Strategy Building, Chiang Mai University Office.
The Faculty’s award-winning design was inspired by the concept:
“Economics for Sustainability Inspired by the Royal Initiatives of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.”
The design translated Her Majesty’s invaluable royal initiatives into the language of economics and sustainable development through a meaningful and aesthetically compelling landscape that clearly reflected the identity and values of the Faculty of Economics.
The concept was built upon three key pillars of sustainability inspired by Her Majesty’s contributions:
Her Majesty’s efforts to elevate Thai handicrafts to international recognition served as a major source of inspiration. This aligns closely with Chiang Mai University’s vision of a “Creative Lanna” and the Faculty’s emphasis on value creation through local resources. The design highlighted the strengthening of grassroots economies and sustainable self-reliance through environmentally friendly bamboo weaving, reflecting the principles of the Green Economy.
Inspired by Her Majesty’s well-known statement, “If no one else appreciates it, I will appreciate it myself,” the Faculty interpreted arts and culture not merely as expressions of beauty but as forms of social capital and intangible assets. These cultural resources represent valuable foundations for long-term economic resilience and deserve preservation as part of the nation’s enduring wealth.
Her Majesty’s dedication to education and self-reliance strongly resonates with the Faculty’s mission of developing high-quality human capital. The design symbolized the Faculty’s commitment to nurturing graduates as change agents who possess both professional competence and a strong sense of social responsibility, contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.
This award represents more than excellence in landscape design. It serves as a testament to the power of economic knowledge in connecting art, culture, and social values into a cohesive and meaningful expression. Through this achievement, the Faculty of Economics successfully conveyed the concept of sustainability in a way that is both visually impactful and intellectually significant.
