Econ CMU, Holds Merit-Making Ceremony to Commemorate Its 61st Anniversary
On 27 August 2025, the Faculty of Economics, Chiang Mai University, organized a merit-making ceremony to mark its 61st anniversary at the Lifelong Learning for Well-being Conference Room. The ceremony was held not only to commemorate the Faculty’s founding, but also to foster encouragement and goodwill among administrators, faculty members, staff, and students, while preserving the rich and valuable Lanna cultural heritage for future generations.
The ceremony began at 08.39 hrs. with a traditional offering to the guardian spirits of the Faculty, followed by a Lanna-style merit-making ritual. The program included Buddhist chanting, observance of the Five Precepts, Bang Sukun (memorial chanting for the deceased), and the offering of food to monks to dedicate merit to late faculty members, staff, and students. In addition, a Lanna-style Sueb Chata blessing ceremony was performed to bestow prosperity and auspiciousness upon the Faculty and all participants.
On this occasion, the Faculty of Economics also presented honorary awards to recognize individuals who have brought distinction and made significant contributions to the Faculty. These included the International Achievement Award, the Student Excellence Support Award, and the Honorary Award for Perseverance, Dedication, and Integrity.
The ceremony concluded with the launch of the project “Birthday Wishes from Seniors to Juniors”, aimed at strengthening bonds and encouraging students through intergenerational support. The event was further honored by the presence of executives from various divisions of Chiang Mai University, creating a warm and collaborative atmosphere that reflected pride in the Faculty’s 61 years of achievement and development.
