Undergraduate Orientation 2025: A Confident First Step for New Economics Students at CMU
On Wednesday, 18 June 2025, from 08.00 to 16.00, the Faculty of Economics, Chiang Mai University, organised its Undergraduate Orientation for the Academic Year 2025 at the Chiang Mai Grandview Hotel. The event aimed to fully prepare new students—academically, socially, and emotionally—for a confident and well-rounded transition into university life.
The morning session began with a welcoming address by Associate Professor Dr. Rossarin Osathanunkul, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, who introduced the faculty’s executive team and first-year academic advisors. She also provided an overview of the academic programmes to help students understand their learning paths and set clear academic goals.
This was followed by a session on “University Life and Student Welfare at Chiang Mai University,” divided by programme groups:
- Associate Professor Dr. Rossarin Osathanunkul gave guidance for students in the regular programme.
- Dr. Kansinee Guntawongwan, Associate Dean, and Assistant Professor Dr. Supanika Leurcharusmee, Assistant to the Dean, provided information for double degree students.
- Assistant Professor Dr. Pithoon Thanabordeekij, Associate Dean; Dr. Mattana Wongsirikajorn, Executive Assistant to the Dean; and international programme lecturers offered tailored advice for international students.
The next session featured an introduction to the academic programmes, registration process, digital learning systems, and other key academic resources, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Tatcha Suttasan and the Academic Services Team.
In the afternoon, international students participated in a series of dedicated sessions. It began with a talk on “Mental Health and International Students” by a professional psychologist, followed by a session on health insurance by Dr. Mattana Wongsirikajorn. Visa procedures were then introduced by Ms. Kulcharee Kritsadathikarnkul, International Relations Officer from the Research Administration, Academic Service, and International Relations Affairs
A peer networking activity gave international students the opportunity to connect with senior students, exchange experiences, and build a sense of belonging within the Econ community from their very first day.
The orientation concluded with “Freshy ECON for Wellbeing,” a session led by medical professionals from OPD 24, who provided valuable guidance on physical and mental health care for first-year students. The Executive Committee of the Faculty’s Student Union was also introduced, alongside a preview of student activities planned throughout the academic year to encourage participation, unity, and engagement in faculty life.
This orientation exemplified the Faculty of Economics’ sincere dedication to holistic student development, ensuring that every new student embarks on their academic journey with confidence, support, and a strong foundation for future personal and professional success.
