This study is objective on researching about the performance of the weaving and clothing of community enterprise group in Chiang Mai province including summarization on their capability and potential assessment. The analyzed information delicately collaborated and collected from the groups that were selected by Department of Cultural Extension (DOAE) of year 2017. The selected groups are divided into 3 categories; 1. Excellent Community Enterprise Group which is studied and selected from Textile and Cloth Weaving Community of Nhong Arb Chang and Career Promotion Group of Baan Ton Jok or Kham Sao 2. Moderate Community Enterprise Group which is studied Baan San Pa Sak Mauhom Tailor Group, and Ready to Wear Garments Group of Baan Aram Mai. 3. Improvement Required Community Enterprise Group which is selected Ancient Cotton Woven Cloth of Baan Raii Temple Group, and Export Woven Cloth of Baan Raii Community. The major method of collecting information is interviewing with the committees and members of each group. The evaluation is conducted from the adaptation of the assessment form of Department of Cultural Extension (DOAE). The assessment is assessed on 5 parts; production, administration, marketing, financial accounting, and member participation.
The result shows that the product of Excellent Group are the Ikat Thai handmade cotton, ready to wear which is popular worn among both gentlemen and ladies available, hand bag and daily life product. The exhibition booths and promotion fairs are arranged and supported by the government departments. Customers’ orders come from both domestic and international. The mentioned group’s profit of yearly turnover is approximately 262,035 Baht. The popular products of the Moderate Group are lady and gentlemen wearing garments, Teen Jok hand woven cloth, and everyday use products. The products distribution is joining promotion fairs with government departments and distributed domestically. The yearly profit for this group is 9,140 Baht on average. Meanwhile, the product like Teen Jok hand woven cloth of the Improvement Required Group is only available in small local community shop. The group does only bring the members’ products to retail in the shop, therefore they do not gain the production profit or any turnover.
The assessment finds that there is a group from the Improvement Required one that developed to be the Moderate, the Ancient Cotton Woven Cloth of Baan Raii Temple Group. The factors improving the group’s potential are; their brand new products production, talented leader, and joining with production fairs under government department control. The potential comparison among the 3 categories reveals that there are essential factors supporting the group’s success. The administration of the group should be standardized, organized together with well managed. The leader of the group must have wide vision with organization skills as well as is accepted by their group members and community. The seminar of educating updated knowledge should always be conducted. The products should be unique, such as their styles of pattern, organic material color. The marketing channels should be wide and various, and products can be delivered both online and export international. The financial accounting should be more accurate. And the members of each group should be more cooperate in group activities participation.
