This independent study contains two objectives: 1) to analyze and compare the operating characteristics of the independent operators who do business of Thai massage service in Chiang Mai Sunday Walking Street area, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province. The data were analyzed by means of a SWOT Analysis (both main street and secondary road), 2) to analyze and compare the financial costs and benefits of doing business that provide Thai massage service in Chiang Mai Sunday Walking Street area, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province. (both main street and secondary road).
The first objective is to analyze and compare the operating characteristics by using SWOT Analysis with indicated that opening a Thai massage in main roads and secondary operations are not different. Different types of massage are available, since some independent operators offer no body massage due to restricted space and unavailability of resources.
The second purpose is to analyze and compare between the financial costs and benefits of doing business of independent operators of Thai massage, both on primary and secondary roads, for the net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), benefit cost ratio (B/C Ratio), payback period of the project (PB) which would be used to analyze for sensitivity analysis by using a discount rate of 7.87 percent. The result from the study indicated that it was worthwhile to open on both primary and secondary roads although it was more advantageous on the main street. However, the overall income and returns were different, being higher in the case of the main road. In the case of break-even point (BEP) overview, starting up on the main street resulted in lower BEP value or shorter time.
The suggestion for Independent Operators are that to open Thai Massage Service in the Chiang Mai Sunday Walking Street area, they should gather to exchange information and opinions to contribute to the development of cooperation in the field of management of qualities and service standards. Besides, those stakeholders should participate in order to promote a support the Thai massage business in the Chiang Mai Sunday Walking Street area to have a good image with sustainability.
