The study of tomatoes producing cost under the commitment according to the case study in Hod district, Chiang Mai in 2016 is divided into 2 producing periods. The study has 2 objectives as follows: 1. To study patterns and methods to grow tomatoes of the uncommitted farmers and the committed farmers and 2. To compare costs and benefits from producing tomatoes of the uncommitted and committed farmers. The population (380 samples) in the study is randomly selected from the farmer households in the sub-districts which are known for growing highest numbers of tomatoes grown sub-districts, among them are Na Khoruea, Bor Luang, and Bor Salee sub-districts. This study adopts the method of descriptive and quantitative analysis in order to conform to cost analysis and benefits from growing tomatoes. The analysis has factors consisted of frequency, percentage, and average which can be summarized below.
The study on the pattern of uncommitted and committed farming in tomato production (production year 2016) found most of the respondents produce tomato without commitment. The result found that 304 of the respondents (72.85%) are in the uncommitted farmers, while there are 76 farmers (27.15%) who are growing tomatoes under the commitment. The main reason why they grow tomatoes is because it is the main profession and these people are specialized in growing them.
According to the study on the cost of producing tomatoes of the uncommitted farmers and the committed farmers, it was found that the main cost was from the variable cost at the percentage of 80, the other 20 was from the fixed cost from growing cherry tomatoes, which was higher than the peach tomatoes.
The result from the study found that the benefits from cherry tomato showed to be higher than the peach one since the mid year of 2016 could produce less than general. The main cause was from the drought that resulted in lower productivity; thus, it was not enough to meet the demand. Consequently, the average yield per acre came up high.
After studying problems and barriers to the operation, it implied some problem samples in the following orders: 1. High cost of operation, 2. Overproduction, and 3. Fall in price respectively.
